Stunning kitchen in Chipping Campden, Cotswolds

What if you paint kitchen cupboards? Just look at the difference it made to this stunning kitchen in Chipping Campden, Cotswolds.

If you’re looking to update your kitchen but don’t want the expense and upheaval of ripping everything out and starting again, then painting your kitchen cupboards can be a great option. Not only is it cost-effective, but it can also give your kitchen a fresh, modern look. This post will explore the benefits of painting your kitchen cupboards and showcase some stunning transformations.

This kitchen in Chipping Campden was previously hand painted, it showed all the brush marks and clients didn’t like the colour of the main units and felt the handles needed changing to modernise the overall look, so changed them to these lovely smaller pull handles. The spray finish on the units gives a much nicer finish, the colour is Elephants Breath which looks quite light in this bright kitchen as there is lots of natural light in here. I think we can all agree that the transformation was well worth the time, effort and cost!

Choosing the right colour for your kitchen.

When it comes to choosing a colour for your kitchen cupboards, there are a few things to consider. First, think about the overall style and colour scheme of your kitchen. Do you want to go for a bold, statement colour or something more neutral and timeless? It’s also important to consider the lighting in your kitchen, as certain colours may look different in different lighting conditions.

If you have an island, then think about creating a bold statement by using a dark colour that complements the outer units. This kitchen is the perfect example of exactly that! The main outer units are painted in Farrow & Ball Elephants Breath, with the island painted in a much darker contrasting colour. We didn’t actually paint the Island on this project as there was nothing wrong with it, and the clients loved the colour; all we painted were the outer lighter units. What we did do, though, which also makes a huge difference, is change the handles.

You can see in some of the photos what the kitchen and the handles were like, so you can see how much of a huge difference it can make to the overall just by changing the colour and the handles.

One thing that seems to be “in vogue” at the moment is different colours on the top and bottom units as a contrast, we have a few projects like this one where clients have chosen exactly that, and it looks amazing. Finally, think about the resale value of your home – if you’re planning on selling in the near future, it may be best to stick with a more neutral colour that will appeal to a wider range of buyers.

How to prepare your kitchen if we paint kitchen cupboards.

One of the most frequently asked questions from clients just before we start on-site is, “How much of the kitchen do I need to clear”?

The answer depends on the KPN Partner carrying out the work and the system that you choose, but we will tell you what they need from you before we start. We don’t need you to remove anything from the cupboards unless you are worried about them and won’t be able to concentrate on anything else whilst we are there. Unless it’s a display cupboard and you are looking to have the inside of it painted, we will mask everything up.

We ask that you give the kitchen a good clean with only a plant-based cleaner so as to avoid any contamination and clean the floor area surrounding the kickboards so as to make sure that our protection will stick to the floor and stay down for the duration.

Other than that, all we ask is that the worktop is clear so we can protect it and use it as a working area.

Maintenance tips for painted kitchen cupboards.

Once you’ve painted your kitchen cupboards, it’s important to maintain them properly to ensure they stay looking great for years to come. Avoid using chemical-based cleaners or abrasive sponges when cleaning your cupboards, as this can damage the paint. Please don’t use steam cleaners or abrasive cleaners on any painted surface as this will cause the paint to bubble, scratch and damages the kitchen. Instead, use a gentle plant-based cleaner and a soft cloth, like a microfibre one to wipe down the surfaces. It’s also a good idea to avoid placing hot pots and pans directly onto painted surfaces, as this can cause the paint to bubble or peel.
