Choosing the right colour for your kitchen units

Choosing the right paint and colour for your kitchen units is a pivotal decision. The paint you select will not only define the visual appeal of your kitchen but also influence the durability and lifespan of the finish. This is where our expertise at The Kitchen Painting Network comes into play. We’ve extensively tested the majority of the options available, focusing on factors like durability, drying times, stain blocking, peeling, and chipping. You can trust our recommendations to guide you towards the best paint for your kitchen.
When it comes to paint finish, we recommend a 10% sheen for its ease of cleaning and maintenance. As for the colour of your kitchen units, consider the overall style and design of your kitchen, as well as the existing colour scheme. Neutral tones, such as white, grey, or beige, are classic and versatile choices that can complement a wide range of kitchen styles. However, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and experiment with bold, vibrant colors. These can create a statement piece or add a pop of personality to your space, inspiring a sense of adventure in your kitchen design.

We always suggest looking at the likes of Farrow & Ball or Little Green as they have a fantastic range of colours to choose from and they have spent ALOT of money developing some amazing colours.
If you’re unsure of which colour to choose, it can be helpful to request paint samples or test small areas of your units. To do this, apply a small amount of the paint on a discreet area of your kitchen units. Allow it to dry completely and observe how the colour looks in your kitchen’s lighting and with the surrounding finishes. This will allow you to make an informed decision and ensure the final painted result aligns with your desired aesthetic.

This colour that clients chose for this kitchen was Farrow & Ball Bone No. 15, which looks stunning and works well with the existing fooring and tiles which they didn’t want to change as they were new fairly recently.

Maintenance and care of your painted kitchen units

As a homeowner, your role in maintaining and caring for your newly painted kitchen units is not just important, it’s crucial. Your actions can significantly impact the appearance and longevity of your units. With your proper care, your painted units can continue to look fresh and vibrant for years to come.
Begin by regularly cleaning the painted surfaces with a mild, non-abrasive plant-based cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth or sponge. We recommend cleaning the surfaces at least once a week to prevent the buildup of grease and dirt. Avoid using harsh chemicals or scrubbing pads, as these can damage the paint over time. When cleaning, focus on areas that are prone to grease or fingerprints, such as the fronts of doors and drawers. Don’t use products that contain bleach, or heavy
In addition to regular cleaning, it’s important to inspect your painted units periodically for any signs of wear or damage. These signs may include chipping, peeling, or fading of the paint, or the appearance of cracks or bubbles on the surface. If you notice any of these issues, address them promptly by touching up the affected areas with the paint we left with you after the initial painting process.
If you need to perform more extensive repairs, such as repainting an entire door or drawer front, just give us a call and we can either come and collect the items and drop them back or if it’s fixed then we can come over and fix on site. There may be a small charge for this but it will keep the kitchen in fantastic condition.
By following these maintenance and care tips, you, as the homeowner, play a vital and appreciated role in extending the life of your painted kitchen units. Your efforts will keep your kitchen looking fresh and updated for years to come, reinforcing the value of your role in this process.

Adding the Finishing Touches

As this is the perfect opportunity to replace door handles, it is another service that we offer. We can fill any existing holes if the new handles are different or we can use the existing holes and add new handles so just let us know if this is something that you would like us to do and we can let you know the costs involved. This client chose to remove the bar handles that were on the kitchen and change them for black knobs instead. This meant that we filled the old handle holes before positioning and drilling new holes and fitting the handles.
You will also notice that the worktops look a little different too! The older laminate worktop was looking tired and scratched, plus the joints had cracked so it needed something doing to it. Rather than having to rip it all out and ruin the tiles, we just chose to paint it for them. This was done using a specially designed system from America by Hawk Labs called StoneFlecks in a colour called midnight sky. The entire process, from preparation to finishing(including the kitchen), took approximately 5 days. This was then topped with a mid sheen top coat giving durability and finished off this kitchen with stunning effect.
