Transform Your Kitchen by Painting the Units
Are you looking for a really simple yet effective way to revamp your kitchen without the cost and hassle of replacing everything? Painted kitchen units could be the answer and is exactly what our lovely clients in Cuckfield near Haywards Heath did. In this article, we show how we transformed this stunning wooden kitchen that had been previously painted many years ago and made it into what looks like a brand new space using 2 different colours from the Little Green Colour Pallet.

Why Choose Painted Kitchen Units?
Cost-Effective Renovation
One of the primary advantages of painted kitchen units is the cost-effectiveness. Replacing kitchen cabinets can be expensive and time-consuming, but a fresh coat of paint can offer a budget-friendly alternative that delivers stunning results. Instead of spending thousands on a new kitchen when the structure and condition of the cabinets are sound, you can achieve a fresh new look with just a few coats of paint.
The colours that clients chose for this kitchen was Little Green Grey Teal 226 on the majority of the outer units and then Little Green Basalt 221 on the Island and large unit with the wine fridge. The dark blue grey of Basalt really went well with the lighter Grey Teal.
This project was completed over a week with minimal disruption to the clients, and we even managed to hand the kitchen back just in time for the Six Nations Rugby match between England and Wales to start!
Choosing the Right Paint
When it comes to selecting the right paint for your kitchen units, quality and durability really matters. Designer colours like Little Green and Farrow & Ball are a really popular choice among homeowners and interior designers mostly because of the colour pallet they both offer, however we don’t feel that the paint itself is durable enough for modern kitchen use.
We extensively test paints designed specifically for kitchen painting and offer our clients the safest and most durable water based option for use in your home.
Lots of kitchen painting companies will try and spray ac, pu or solvent based paints in your home, they will try and tell you its the best in terms of hard wearing and durability, and in some ways it is, however its not safe to be sprayed in your home and will “gas off” harmful vapour for a few days after it has been sprayed so make sure that you do your research before you choose the kitchen painter to paint your kitchen.

Preparing Your Kitchen Units for Painting
Before we arrive is the perfect opportunity to go through your kitchen units and have a good sort out and de clutter. Get rid of anything that you haven’t used in ages and donate them to charity or sell/give away on the likes of Facebook Marketplace so someone else can get the benefit from them. We keep so much clutter in our kitchen cupboards that we just don’t use.
It’s also a great time to go through the herbs and spices, tins, pulses and pasta as you may well find that some of these are out of date and can go in the bin too.
Then its time to put everything back together. You could clean and tidy the insides at this point as we often find that these won’t be painted, however be aware that there may be some dust from the dirty work in us prepping and painting everything. Although we do mask and protect everything it doesn’t mean that some dust won’t get through.
Other than that, all we ask is that the worktops are cleared and anything valuable or breakable is moved out of harms reach.

Painting Your Kitchen Units
This is where you leave everything down to us! From degreasing to sanding out old brush marks, this is what we do. Depending on the system that you choose (we will go through all of this with you during the quoting stage), depends on whether we remove all the doors and take them away or prepare and spray them in situ. Either way, you will end up with a fantastic end result that will last for more years to come.
Drying and Curing
Although we don’t leave the kitchen until everything is dry, we do recommend that you let the paint cure for several days before handling it too much. This curing period ensures that the paint hardens properly and resists chipping and peeling. During this time, avoid placing heavy objects on any painted surfaces or exposing them to excessive moisture or heat. We leave you with an after care sheet as well as some touch up paint because we know there will be some accidents over time. We also offer a service where we will come out and do any repairs to keep the kitchen looking as good as new, however as you can guess, there is a small charge for this.
Adding the Finishing Touches
As this is the perfect opportunity to replace door handles, it is another service that we offer. We can fill any existing holes if the new handles are different or we can use the existing holes and add new handles so just let us know if this is something that you would like us to do and we can let you know the costs involved.
If you have an existing kitchen with painted kitchen units that needs a bit of tlc and you want to add a splash of colour, if you have a wooden kitchen that you are bored with and want to lighten up the space, or if you have a kitchen you are not sure can be painted then just get in touch and we can guide you through the options.
