What is the process of painting kitchen cupboards?

We are often asked what the process is for painting kitchen cabinets so we thought we would put it down here. Depending on the size of your kitchen we usually complete the process in 4-5 days. We start most kitchens on Monday and aim to finish by Friday to avoid any disruption over the weekend. 

Step 1: Preparation

Our transformation process begins with a positive attitude and a labelling system for all your kitchen doors and drawers, ensuring everything is put back in its proper place. We then carefully remove the doors and handles and bring them to our workshop to prepare. *note: some KPN partners complete the whole system in your home

Step 2: Spraying and Sanding

At the workshop, we inspect the doors and drawers for any imperfections and do any filling whilst still maintaining the character of your kitchen. After the filler dries, we sand the surfaces for a smooth finish, then apply an even coat of primer using high-quality, water-based products in our custom spray booth. The first top coats of our tried and tested paints go on to the painted kitchen cupboards once the primer is dry too.

Step 3: Masking and Painting

Back on site, we mask all areas not being painted, such as the floor, the worktops, the walls, and any appliances. We re-hang the painted kitchen cupboards before sanding the carcasses, any plinths, cornice, shelves or any display areas before using safe, water-based primers, ensuring the safety of your children and pets.

Step 4: Final Touches and Sanding

Before the final reveal, we double-check the kitchen and painted kitchen cupboards for any final touch-ups and sand the surface, preparing it for the topcoat. We apply the first topcoat and then repeat the process for the final coat, revealing the stunning results of your painted kitchen cupboards.

Step 5: The Big Reveal

Finally, the day has arrived! Depending on the size of your kitchen we may finish however on Thursday. Our team arrives with a smile, eager to reveal the transformation of your kitchen. We carefully check everything and make sure the painted kitchen cupboards look perfect. We attach the handles whether they are new or existing ones, and we unwrap our hard work to showcase your beautiful kitchen. After a final clean-up, we take photos and leave you with a thank you present as a token of our appreciation.
